First isolation of Mycobacterium setense from hospital water

چکیده
In recent years, nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) have emerged as an important cause of opportunistic nosocomial infections and pseudo-infections[1-4]. Mycobacterium setense (M. setense) is an emerging organism of the Mycobacterium fortuitum (M. fortuitum) group that was added to the growing list of rapidly growing mycobacteria isolated from humans in 2008. It was firstly isolated and characterized from a patient with a posttraumatic chronic skin abscess associated with osteitis[5]. Apart from two clinical reports from France and Iran, there have been no ecological data in the natural habitat of this species since its original isolation and characterization[6,7]. This investigation presents the findings of a study on isolation of four unrelated environmental strains of M. setense from hospital environment and helps to assess the natural habitat and the mode of transmission in man.

First report on isolation and molecular characterization of clinical Mycobacterium setense isolates in Asia.
We herein present the third set of documented clinical Mycobacterium setense cases. Three clinically unrelated isolates were identified and characterized using various key conventional and molecular diagnostic tests. Phenotypic and molecular data analysis, particularly 16S rDNA, hsp65, and rpoB sequencing, provided evidence of M. setense involvement in clinical infections in Iranian patients. O...

Mycobacterium setense CSUR47 is a rapidly growing Mycobacterium species strain isolated from pus collected from a left maxillary sinus in Marseille, France. Here, we report the complete 6,278,097-bp genome sequence of M. setense CSUR47, which exhibits a 66.40% GC content and encodes 5,863 protein-coding genes, 48 tRNAs, and 9 rRNAs.
متن کاملDraft Genome Sequences of Mycobacterium setense Type Strain DSM-45070 and the Nonpathogenic Strain Manresensis, Isolated from the Bank of the Cardener River in Manresa, Catalonia, Spain
We present here the draft genome sequences of two Mycobacterium setense strains. One of them corresponds to the M. setense type strain DSM-45070, originally isolated from a patient with a posttraumatic chronic skin abscess. The other one corresponds to the nonpathogenic M. setense strain Manresensis, isolated from the Cardener River crossing Manresa, Catalonia, Spain. A comparative genomic anal...

M. setense is an emerging organism of the M. fortuitum group that must be added to the growing list of rapidly growing mycobacteria isolated from humans. The initial gram-positive rod appearance of M. setense may delay its accurate identifi cation. Determination of antimicrobial drug susceptibility needs to be conducted by the reference broth dilution method. Further reports are warranted to ch...
متن کاملFirst isolation of Mycobacterium spp. in Mullus spp. in Turkey
Ichthyozoonotic Mycobacterium spp. poses health risks both to fish and humans. In this study, the presence of ichthyozoonotic Mycobacterium spp. was investigated in red mullet (Mullus barbatus barbatus) and surmullet (Mullus surmuletus), widely caught species in the Mediterranean and the Aegean Sea. A total of 208 fish samples, provided from fishermen of Mersin province (Turkey) were studied. U...
